Who would have believed that four weeks after trudging out of Hampden with the pain of the semi final exit to Queen of the South still raw and a top six finish looking tricky the Dons would be right back in the hunt for a UEFA place. A win against Motherwell tomorrow will in turn set up a potential showdown with Rangers at Pittodrie on the last day of the season. Of course Aberdeen have failed to beat Mark McGhee's side this season so this will be a tough test of their Euro credentials. Many observers are claiming that the Dons don't deserve the last European berth, but at the end of the day the season is played over 38 games and the team with the third highest point tally is entitled to represent their country in a tournament that Aberdeen thoroughly enjoyed this season.

The squad is already down in Lanarkshire ahead of the big game and before he left Jimmy Calderwood gave an update on the latest squad news.

"The team news ahead of Saturday is that Lee Mair has picked up another knock in training so he will miss out alongside Jamie Smith and Jonathan Smith. Richie Byrne is out, Diamond's suspended and Derek Young is also unavailable. We have doubts about Aluko, Mackie and Maybury but I would expect them all to be fit and be available to start the game.

"We go into the game at the weekend knowing exactly what we have to do. Winning is our only option. We are the form side at the moment after beating both Hibernian and Dundee United but we know for a fact that Motherwell will be no push over as they have proved already this season."

Redquote: "We have to win tomorrow. We know if we can do that we are level and everything to play for. We have won our last two although it maybe wasn't pretty to watch. At this stage of the season it's all about the three points and it will be the same this weekend." Jeffrey de Visscher

Gothenburg legend Mark McGhee has completely turned round the fortunes of the Lanarkshire club since he took over in the summer. From a team that just escaped relegation last season to third spot in the SPL is no mean achievement especially given the tragedy the club had to cope with and the limited budget available. Whatever happens to Motherwell now, there is no doubt that Mark McGhee has made a huge impact in his first season in the SPL.

Jimmy Calderwood was also full of praise for the Lanarkshire club as he tries to plot their downfall tomorrow. "Motherwell play some really nice football and this game means everything for both teams involved. If we can win it then everything is to play for in the final game of the season and if they win then they are pretty much guaranteed European football next season.

Jimmy at training today"If we managed to pip the other teams and get third spot then it would be a slight appeasement on this season's performances but we will never forget some of the bad points. I hear we are taking a big crowd down to the game and this is absolutely brilliant, the fans have a lot to be proud of and hopefully we will give them a display which merits their support."

Subscribers to RedTV will be able to hear more from Jimmy Calderwood's as well as listening to Jeffrey de Visscher's thoughts on the weekend's match. The game is at Fir Park this Saturday and has a traditional 3pm kick off. Fans are reminded that Motherwell have slashed the entry fee and everyone will be allowed in for only £5.
